Families looking for a change in scenery can opt for a vacation closer to home and within driving distance — which makes beaches along the Gulf Coast a more appealing vacation destination.
Tourism officials with Gulf Shores and Orange Beach say their destination is eager to welcome Louisiana visitors back to its shores with open arms.
The destination’s beaches have reopened, and Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey recently amended the state’s safer-at-home guidelines for entertainment venues and attractions, with social distancing measures in place.
Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are home to 32 miles of sugar-white sand coastline, pristine turquoise waters and a warm coastal climate. Alabama’s beaches are expansive, allowing families plenty of room to stay safe while having fun in the sun.

Tourism officials say that along with the beach, the destination has plenty of amenities to offer for families to explore while staying socially distant.
In accordance with state guidelines, many businesses are offering limited or modified services during this time. Tourism officials say many attractions, lodging partners and restaurants in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are working to ensure the safety and wellbeing of locals and guests.
If you’re planning a change of scenery, here’s a list of places to explore at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Visitors can enjoy outdoor recreation, waterfront restaurants with open-air seating and even look into lodging options for their stay.
Outdoor Recreation
In addition to the beach, visitors can get outside for some fresh air in a variety of ways along the Gulf Coast. From water recreation to active exploration, there’s something for everyone.
One option lets adventure seekers kayak and paddleboard on the Coastal Alabama Back Bay Blueway. Also, Gulf State Park’s Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail provides more than 28 miles of paved, winding scenic paths for biking and hiking.

Anglers can take in the sights and sounds while fishing from shore, docks, piers and other private fishing locations. Charter boat businesses are open and will comply with the six feet distancing guidelines.
Gulf Shores and Orange Beach even provide a different golfing experience. Golfers can tee off at 15 golf courses in and around the destination, with social distancing measures in place.
Restaurants and Waterfront Dining
Many Gulf Shores and Orange Beach restaurants offer waterfront and open-air seating options. These local businesses serve up everything from fresh Gulf seafood and sweet Alabama BBQ to vegan eats and boundless brunches.
In accordance with state guidelines, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach restaurants are permitted to offer on-site dining with tables spaced at least six feet apart and limited party sizes. Additionally, many restaurants continue to offer takeout, curbside pickup and delivery.

Many of the lodging partners in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are open and welcoming guests. Among the inventory, you’ll find primarily vacation rentals like beach houses and condos providing a great, secluded option for families traveling to the area.
