NEW ORLEANS (NOLA WEEKEND) -With the return of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival return, many festival-goers are mapping out what they need to pack for the Fair Grounds.
Jazz Fest officials warn some items are off-limits, including hard-sided coolers or personal tents. Festival-goers are also not allowed to reserve tarp space larger than 6′ x 8′, officials say.
Festival organizers release key information you need to know about Jazz Fest via its website, including this list of prohibited items to leave at home:
- Hard-sided coolers: You can bring in soft coolers, but not larger than 12-pack size.
- Outside beverages whether carried or in vehicles, except for factory-sealed water for personal consumption
- Wagons, pull-carts or rolling bags, packs, etc.
- Pets
- Glass
- Metal poles
- Personal tents, shade canopies or other shelters/shacks, sport-brellas, etc.
- Beach or pole-style umbrellas (over 63″)
- Drones
- Inflatable items
- Promotional items
- Athletic games, hula hoops, frisbees, kites, etc.
- Bicycles
- Large chairs with rocker, footrests, side tables, etc.
- Other personal transport devices (e.g. skateboards, Segways, hoverboards, go-peds, etc.)
- Video and audio recording equipment
- Weapons, illicit drugs and other contraband
Festival organizers also prohibit any unauthorized vending or solicitation unless you’re an official, permitted fest vendor.
Festival-goers are also not allowed to insert stakes, poles or any objects into the ground to reserve space. Also, don’t try using ropes, cords or tape to reserve spaces either. Finally, reserving tarp space larger than 6′ x 8′ is strictly prohibited, according to festival organizers.

Prohibitions will be strictly enforced. All bags will be searched, and all vehicles will be subject to search.
So, what is allowed? Festival organizers outline a list of items that are allowed into the festival:
- Small bags and backpacks (17″ x 12″ x 10″)
- 12-pack or smaller soft coolers
- Factory-sealed bottled water for personal consumption
- Single, collapsible chairs
- Wheelchairs, medical scooters
- Blankets and ground tarps – 6′ x 8′ or less, leaving enough space around each blanket/tarp for safe foot passage
- Push strollers for children
- Handheld, personal-sized umbrellas

Jazz Fest is scheduled from April 28 - May 7 at the Fair Grounds. Dead & Company, Ed Sheeran, Lizzo, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, Santana, Leon Bridges and Ludacris are among the headlining acts.
