Rob49′s Vulture Weekend, Juneteenth Freedom Festival, Prograis vs. Zorrilla among things to do this weekend, June 16 - 18

NEW ORLEANS (NOLA WEEKEND) - From music events to festivals, there are several events to fill your schedules this Father’s Day weekend. Here’s a list of events happening in New Orleans and the surrounding areas this weekend from June 16 to June 18.
NORD’s Inaugural NOLA Gen Fezt
The New Orleans Department of Recreation (NORD) Commission hosts its inaugural NOLA Gen Fezt at the Lafitte Greenway on Saturday, June 17.
NOLA Gen Fezt is the first New Orleans music festival organized by teens for teens ages 13 to 18. The music lineup includes Fresh x Reckless, Subtweet Shawn, Hot Boy Ronald, Flagboy Giz, Denisia and others.
Organizers also want to encourage young entrepreneurs to sign up to participate as vendors. The event also includes games, school bands and food vendors.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Register online for free admission at the NORD website.
Rob49 hosts second annual ‘Vulture Weekend’
Rising New Orleans rapper Rob49 hosts his second annual “Vulture Weekend” in New Orleans with a celebrity basketball game and concert.
The Vulture Island Celebrity Basketball Game tips off at McDonogh 35 High School on Friday, June 16.
Chicago rapper G Herbo, New Orleans entrepreneur Larry Morrow, Detroit Lions safety C.J “Ceedy” Gardner-Johnson, New Orleans rapper Neno Calvin and podcast host/hip-hop personality Gillie Da King are among the participants. Doors for the celebrity basketball game open at 3 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for kids at $10 for adults.
Then, Rob49 will headline his Vulture Island Concert at the Fillmore on June 17. Doors for the concert open at 7 p.m. Tickets for the concert are on sale via LiveNation.com.
JAMNOLA treats Dads to free admission for Father’s Day
JAMNOLA, the cultural funhouse in the Bywater, provides complimentary tickets for dads to enjoy their immersive tours on Father’s Day.
On Father’s Day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., fathers can explore the vibrant and interactive world of JAMNOLA. The popular exhibit is known for its diverse installations about New Orleans’ rich culture and history. As long as you purchase one ticket, there’s a coupon code to enter when booking for Dad to come along for free: “DAD23.″
General admission tickets to JAMNOLA are priced at $29 for adults and $20 for children on weekdays, with a slightly higher price of $32 on weekends.
After their tour, dads will receive a “NOLA is My Happy Place” button to commemorate their visit. This button can be redeemed at the Bywater Brew Pub, located at 3000 Royal Street, for a free draft beer. Tickets can be reserved online at the website, jamnola.com.
Juneteenth Freedom Festival at Whitney Plantation
The historic Whitney Plantation in Edgard, Louisiana hosts a free Juneteenth Freedom Festival for all ages to commemorate the holiday on Saturday, June 17.
The event includes African dance lessons, food trucks and vendors from neighboring parishes and an author talk with New Orleans chef and cookbook author Toya Boudy. In honor of the holiday, the plantation will waive museum admission and allow guests to take self-guided tours.

Prograis vs. Zorrilla at the Smoothie King Center
New Orleans native and boxer Regis Prograis defends his WBC Super-Lightweight title right here in his hometown.
Prograis will face Puerto Rico’s Danielito Zorrilla in a bout at the Smoothie King Center on Saturday, June 19.
The match is set to start at 5:05 p.m. Tickets start at $30 via Ticketmaster.
