NEW ORLEANS (NOLA WEEKEND) - Summer is typically a slow season for New Orleans, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a list of fun events coming up. Here’s a list of events happening in New Orleans and the surrounding areas this weekend from July 14 to July 16.

Island Strong Music Festival

The Island Strong Music Festival returns for its second year in Grand Isle. This year, the event expands to three days from Thursday, July 13 to Saturday, July 15.

Last year, the festival launched to support recovery efforts in Grand Isle after Hurricane Ida. Organizers decided to make it an annual event to celebrate the town’s recovery.

The fest features live music, food and more than 70 vendors at the Tarpon Rodeo Pavilion. Some performers in the music lineup include Ryan Foret and Foret Tradition, the Chase Tyler band and Jr. Lacrosse.

Gates open at 4 p.m. on Thursday, at Noon on Friday and at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Entry is $10 on Thursday and $15 on Friday and Saturday. Weekend bracelets are also available for $30. Organizers say entry fees are being accepted as cash only, but there’s an on-site ATM. Visit the website for more details.

New Orleans’ Running of the Bulls

New Orleans’ Running of the Bulls, also known as San Fermin en Nueva Orleans, returns to the Central Business District at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 15.

At the New Orleans version of Spain’s famous bull-running event, roller derby skaters chase participants in the streets armed with plastic bats. A post-race celebration immediately follows the run at the Howlin’ Wolf with music by the Rebirth Brass Band and rapper Boyfriend. General admission is $20.

There’s a whole weekend of festivities surrounding the run such as a pre-race party on Friday and a Burlesque Brunch on Sunday. For more information, visit the website.

Kokomo Stroll

On the Northshore, adults can have a little fun at the Kokomo Stroll, a beach-themed event in downtown Covington on Saturday, July 15.

Downtown Covington’s annual beach party returns for its sixth year. Guests are encouraged to get creative with beach attire for the event with summer cocktails, craft beer and light bites served by participating businesses.

The event includes live music at various locations around downtown Covington and beach-themed activities. The event runs from 5 p.m. To 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 and include a Kokomo stroll cup. Visit the website for more information.

Fantasia with special guest Joe

Grammy-winning singer and actress Fantasia is currently on tour and stops in New Orleans for a show at the UNO Lakefront Arena on Friday, July 14.

R&B veteran Joe joins Fantasia as the opening act. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. While Ticketmaster lists the show as sold out, some resale tickets are available online. See more details about the show here.
