Pet Project: Max The K9 Has A Lot To Share With The World

Pet Project: Max The K9 Has A Lot To Share With The World We are joined by Sergeant Silva to play ball and chat about the favorite hobbies of Tulane's most popular campus officer, Max!

NEW ORLEANS, La. (NOLA NOW) - Sergeant Vincent Silva and Max the K9 wake up every day knowing the work they accomplish will directly help someone. At their headquarters in Tulane University, Max has been dual-certified in both bomb-sniffing and therapy. These certifications greatly help him keep the campus from blowing up and Tulane’s students from emotionally blowing up.

Max is a two year old Chocolate Lab and the only thing he loves more than tennis balls is being there for those whom need him. On one occasion, Sergeant Silva and Max were responding to a crisis situation in which a student was experiencing dangerous levels of anxiety. Upon seeing Max, the student confided that she had a Chocolate Lab back home and hugged and pet his soft fur for as long as she needed to heal.

Sergeant Silva recalls Max performing therapeutic miracles in countless crisis situations and that radiating happiness is just an everyday thing for his partner, Max. While Max was trained for a year at LAK9, all the orphan pets out there can show just as much love and admiration to their owners--they are just waiting for someone to hug them.
