NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - American rock band Alabama Shakes is back after an eight-year hiatus and the reunion tour will stop in New Orleans for one night.
The band will headline at The Saenger Theater on Tuesday, Sept. 23 and doors will open at 7 p.m.
Alabama Shakes played a surprise reunion show last December at a benefit concert in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They are set to play the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival in July, the same month their reunion tour kicks off.
Original bassist Zac Cockrell and guitarist Heath Fogg are both involved in the reunion with singer/guitarist Brittany Howard.
“Last year, Heath, Zac, and I started chatting about how much fun it would be to make music together and tour again as Alabama Shakes,” said vocalist/guitarist Brittany Howard, whose new solo album, What Now, was nominated this year for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. “This band and these songs have been such a source of joy for all of us. It is crazy that it has been 10 years since we released Sound and Color and eight years since we played a show.”

Howard also said the band does not want the reunion to be only a “look back”. She said the tour is also about the future and their plans to release new music.
Originating in Athens, Georgia, Alabama Shakes was one of the most prominent rock bands of the previous decade for a few years before their planned hiatus in 2018. During their run, the band won four Grammy Awards. Howard received one for Best Rock Song with “Stay High” in 2021 as part of her work as a solo artist.
Tickets for the band’s date in New Orleans go on sale Friday (Feb. 14) at 10 a.m. with a venue presale on Thursday (Feb. 13) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. They’ll be available for purchase here.
