Trombone Shorty Foundation, Kit Kat partner to celebrate New Orleans music for Black Music Month

NEW ORLEANS (NOLA WEEKEND) - The Trombone Shorty Foundation partners with Kit Kat to spotlight Black music in New Orleans in celebration of Black Music Month this June.
New Orleans is one of six cities in the U.S. that the brand showcases in six unique candy bar designs depicting Black music and created by Black illustrators. The brand has also teamed up with six nonprofits in these cities that bring positive change and opportunities for Black youth through music.
Memphis-based illustrator Mia Saine created the design for the New Orleans Kit Kat bar with a depiction of “New Orleans and its jazz sound swarm forth in the street with unity and perseverance,” Saine said via the website.

Kit Kat also created “Hear It From Here” documentary shorts featuring notable artists in their community discussing the history and influence of Black music in their hometowns.
The New Orleans vignette highlights traditional New Orleans Jazz and brass band music and features representatives from the Trombone Shorty Foundation, jazz drummer and vocalist Jamison Ross, trumpet player Branden Lewis and young musicians from the Trombone Shorty Academy.
The Trombone Shorty Foundation, the nonprofit organization created by New Orleans musician Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, aims to inspire the next generation of talented opportunity youth through music education, instruction, mentorship and performance.
The Trombone Shorty Foundation announced the partnership with Kit Kat on Instagram:
In addition to New Orleans, the campaign features five additional cities at the epicenter of Black music and its notable genres, including Memphis’ soul music scene, Detroit’s techno influence, G-funk and alternative hip-hop in Los Angeles, New York’s hip-hop scene and homegrown go-go music in Washington D.C.
